What Our Flesh Despises Our Spirit Craves
Stretching and strengthening our muscles is hard work. Most people hate the gym, though we acknowledge exercise is good for our health and well being. How much more, then, is it vital for us to stretch and strengthen our faith muscle?
Bible study is a workout for our spirits. In our flesh, we aren't naturally wired to crave the things of God. However, it is our faith that testifies to the seal of the Holy Spirit on us in Christ. Only by meditating on, studying and praying through the Word of God daily will our faith become stronger, worthy to be proved.
This is the only way to know God intimately...through His words. Choose to deny what the flesh wants. Ignore the lies that it's "too hard"..."not that important"..."something I'm fine without", or whatever other excuse that liar, Satan, tries to feed you.
Choose to invite God to empower you, through His Holy Spirit who He has already given you, to be willing and faithful to exercise your spirit. Then, obey. Never has a child of God regretted this life-giving training. Never has a child of God regretted having a deeper knowledge of her Lord.
"Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do." Psalm 1:1-3 NLT
